Welcome

"Working together with our families and military community,

we are dedicated to inspiring a love of learning where students grow to reach

their fullest potential."

Dear Families,

Welcome! I hope you have had an enjoyable and relaxing summer. I have and I am excited to begin this new school year!  It is my hope that school will be back to “normal” as much as it is possible during this unprecedented time.  Last year, I was the digital teacher and I am thrilled to be back in person with all of my students. Please take a moment to read this page and the attachments to find out about our class.

About Me

My family moved to Sierra Vista when I was 3. I consider myself an Arizonan and love living here.  I graduated from The University of Arizona with a bachelor's degree in education and later with a Master’s in teaching at risk youth. Teaching has been my passion for 32 years.   Most of that time has been spent teaching 5th grade.  I have taught in California, Phoenix, and for the past 20 years here at Ft. Huachuca. In fact, coming back to Sierra Vista and teaching on post inspired me to continue teaching. Teaching at Myer and working with military and military affiliated families is amazing.

I am married and have a daughter.  Kevin, my husband, and I have been married for 31 years.  Kelsey, my daughter, is 25 and is a student at ASU.  She attended Myer for elementary school.  Our family enjoys camping, riding our motorcycles, boating, and traveling.  We also have one four legged family member, a dog named Malli.

About Our Classroom

In our classroom I want all of the students to feel that they are part of a team.  I expect them to work together with me, other students, staff, and their family to grow both academically and socially.  I believe that every student can be successful and I will do all that is necessary to help them make that happen. We will develop procedures and rules to help your child understand expectations and consequences.  They should feel safe to ask questions, explore new ideas, and take chances.   Students will have both successes and challenges, but with help they will learn that the challenges are just as important as the successes.  With all of us working together this will be an awesome school year.

I look forward to meeting all of you at our Meet and Greet on August 3rd.

Sincerely,

Mrs. K Tomlin
