Running Club

Turkey Trot

These past few weeks, students have been preparing for our annual Turkey Trot. This one-mile race will be held on Friday, November 18th on our school’s track. Students who have qualified during the one-mile fitness challenge in PE class or at running club are invited to participate in this event. Students may continue to try-out during running club (Monday-Wednesday lunch recess) up until the week of the event. An invitation and event info will be sent home with all qualifiers starting the first week of November.

Parents and staff will also have an opportunity to take part in our Turkey Trot! Those adults interested will race at 8:30 AM with the top male and female receiving an actual turkey!  Next, the 3rd graders will race, followed by the 4th grade students, and finishing with 5th grade. Girls will race first, followed by the boy qualifiers. Awards and ribbons will be presented to all participants.

If you’d like to participate in the “grown-up” race, please let me know! The whole school will be out there to cheer you on!

This is always a very exciting event and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the race!

Running Club begins September 7th

I am happy to announce that Myer Running Club is back! Students will experience enjoyment in physical activity, team unity, and goal completion. As a club, we will strive to represent our school while having fun! The Running Club is open to all interested girls and boys, 3rd through 5th grade.  Our goal is to provide a fun and supportive opportunity for our children to be active and develop better fitness, self-discipline, and a dedicated attitude in all that they do.  I believe being a member of the Running Club will positively impact self-esteem and attitude.

Running club will begin on Tuesday, September 7th and will be held every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday during lunch recess. I’ll be stationed at the track to assist and encourage those students who choose to participate. Remember, this is an optional activity during recess time. No prior sign up is necessary.

Myer Running Club offers a wonderful opportunity for students to work on their cardiovascular fitness while accumulating miles run (or walked) around the track. Students will receive card punches each time they complete a lap. Every four laps equal a mile. Once they’ve run 10 miles total, they’ll receive an award certificate. The first ribbon will be awarded at 25 miles. Ribbons will continue being awarded every 25 miles run. Class and top individual stats will be updated regularly on our Running Club bulletin board, as well as being recognized during Monday morning announcements.

Parent volunteers are appreciated! Those available between 11:25 and 12:35, I’d like to encourage you to come assist with keeping records and cheering on the runners. If you are able and willing to help out at the track, please contact me ahead of time.
I'm also in need of a volunteer to count card punches on Wednesdays after 12:40 or Thursday mornings. Please let me know if you're available to help.

Thank you!
